My first Quilt

Camille Rosekelly over at Simplify and Carrie of (Miss Rosie fames)'s blog are holding a Parade of quilts. The idea is that you write about your blog about your first ever quilt and your most recent. You then leave a comment on their blogs linking to your post and on Monday they will then post a link to everyone who participates on their blog's. There may be a prize involved, who doesn't want to win something!

I think it's a great idea, it will give us all some idea's of future projects. I mostly like looking at the colour combinations that other quilters put together. I wish we had the quilting shops that they have........bliss!

I don't think my first ever quilt qualifies, seeing as Judy (whom taught me how to quilt) ended up finishing it so that I could move house. This one is my first quilt, I did it alone with lots and lots of mistakes. Judy made me rip quite a bit of it apart as it has the skirty effect on the boarders and my blocks were different sizes.

Judy speed quilted it for me on her Bernina, it took her a couple of hours! Again I had to catch a flight!!! I still haven't put the binding back on. I had to unpick it as I had cut five inch strips and folded it in half a sewed it on. I don't know what made me do something so silly. So the binding is now cut and waiting to go back on.

I love this quilt, I love the colours and I love that I did it myself. i love that it isn't perfect and that it's a representation of how much my life has changed since I made it.

These little beauties are my very latest. Can you see I haven't put the binding on, but that will change tonight. Tonight I will stitch the binding on and then sit in front of the t.v and love every moment of finishing them.

They are both gifts. The fabric for the quilt on top is predominantly Heather Bailey's Pop Garden with a few pinks from Sandi Henderson's Farmer's Market. The other quilt is all Farmers Market.

The sashing, boarders and backing are a white leaf on white cotton that I got in the fabric shop in Athaiba.

When I look through the quilts I've made in between, I notice that my style hasn't evolved much. I feel confident to branch out on other now things especially as my cutting and sewing of lines is almost perfect (shoot me). So once I've caught up on all my WIP's/UFO's I hope to make either Summer Sunshine or Girlfriends Galore from Material Obsession.
