Visitors

Dado and Rita arrived two weeks ago for their annual holiday, so you can imagine we tried to squeeze in as much time with them as possible. Thing is, we didn’t get any photo’s. We had a lovely mothers day despite it being a day late, the kids helped to make some heart shaped cup cakes, we did some sight seeing, lots of swimming, breakfasts, lunches and dinners. They last Tuesday, I was very upset to see them go.

I managed to get the quilts done!

It’s the perfect size to keep warm whilst watching TV. I stitched in the ditch with this one, boy is straight line stitching very unforgiving!

For Rita’s quilt I used Heather Bailey’s Pop Garden  for the front of the quilt and the back and binding are Sandi Henderson’s farmers market. On this one for the quilting I Shadow stitched, not as bad as stiching in the ditch.

My first finishes for 2010, thank goodness. I’m hoping to get two more done before my thailand holiday at the end of the month. Wish me luck!

FUN!

It Rained!

The Weather Man had forecast unstable weather for the weekend but it never came. This morning started off a little over cast and very quickly progressed to being pitch black and then the heavens opened and I mean cat’s and dog’s. I jumped in the car to collect Abdulla from nursery and made it there fine, I jumped out the car and yelped, the rain was freezing cold!!! By the time I made it in to the nursery, I was soaked and thanking god that my shirt’s fabric was of the darker thicker variety! The dad’s on the other hand were wearing their lovely white Dishdasha’s, gosh those Dishdasha’s hide a multitude of sins. I now know which ones go commando and who prefers boxers to briefs!

We made it back to the car and in the process of getting Abdulla strapped in to his car seat, I got even more soaked. It took us an hour to get home (the nursery is ten minutes away), by the time we got back we were both freezing, my shoes and the bottoms of my jeans were sodden, we were soaked through. I went to get changed and even had to change my under wear. I was in the rain for a total of four minutes.
I’ve mentioned before how much we love the rain and how little we get, we sat at the front door with hot chocolate and socks on and watched it coming down. Noora said: ‘mama I love the rain it makes my heart so happy’ and Abdulla said:’let’s go splashing’!’
I hope you get a few more days of this and then I will be able to accept the fact that our winter has been short this year but at least we got some rain!

p.s. My mother and I have taken up Tennis and I have used the cross trainner twice since it has been repaired, progress right?

Party Fun!

We went to a kids party this afternoon, the kids and adults had an absolute blast. The weather was fabulous, I can’t stress how our quality of life improves at this time of the year.

Abdulla was fantastic on this balance bike, he won’t need his training wheels for very much longer.

 

Noora with her buddy Ryan from school, you can tell that they sit at the same table together. They didn’t play like they were just friends, there was understanding and cooperation which obviously comes from them having to work together. 

My darling girl, she has started posing for the camera. Isn’t she just adorable.

A Little Something…..

After school on the last day of term we were supposed to go to a party but we didn’t make it, the kids were FERAL. So instead I threw Sara and the kids in the pool and watched this from the side lines.

and remember how I said I was watching from the side lines, a little monkey boy told me he that he had had enough and so I took off his float, turned around to reach for the towel and he dived in the deep end….

Rain!

It hardly ever rains here and that in itself is an under statement. On Saturday it was a little overcast and we all got very excited at the prospect of some rain, then a severe weather warning was issued and nothing seemed to happen! It came later that night, not for a long time but boy did it pour….. Did I mention that when it does rain it pours? Anyway, no school the next day due to the weather and guess what? It was beautiful and bright! Later that afternoon, it poured for  a little while and so we sat on the front steps of the house and watched it come down.
We tasted it! (Ma, I know it’s not the best photo of me!)

and in the morning when it didn’t rain…….
Cafe G, for ice cream and ginger bread men (in Oman we like to dunk everything!)
Oh and Balloons! A fun time was had by all.
And mummies everywhere were very relieved when the little munchkins went back to school and nursery!
At the risk of sounding ancient…. In my day ;-), school wasn't;t closed if it rained. We still went to school but got to run around in the playground all day and get drenched………now , them were the days!

I have to add that many 10 people lost their lives and another 6 are still missing due to the flooding caused by the rains. My sincerest condolences to the families.

We had another Eid!

The weather has turned and so the kids all had a great time!

and the adults ate

 

it was a little chilly that night and the kids put on the lonjohn pyjama’s that Nana had brought them and settled down for some t.v before bedtime.

A great time was had by all, but thank god it’s over. I am now looking forward to getting December out of the way, roll on January!

Kids Rooms

Remember  back in the summer I promised some before and after pics of the house. Well so far I only have afters of the kids rooms, I’ll get the rest later (another thing to add to my to do list!).

What Originally started out as Noora’s and was then they shared has now reverted back to you guessed it… Noora’s Room

 

And Abdulla’s Room, which was initially his and then the guest room and is now his room again…

  I am really proud of the blind in this room, it only cost me OR1.800 a metre (about USD 5.00) as it was the end of the roll. Just so you know, I loved it before I found out the price ;-)

Pardon the pink bed guard! Abdula wanted a McQueen themed room, but I hate disney inspired bedrooms and so he has mostly animals with a few McQueen stick ons and duvet cover.

Did I mention that my Mum is home, we had lots of fun catching up yesterday and the kids just loved seeing their Nana.

Off to get Abdulla from nursery.
